Job Description
Reporting to the Manager, the Mental Health Social Worker II will carry out their responsibilities as a member of a multi-disciplinary team offering clinical treatment to children/youth who are experiencing emotional/behavioral/social challenges and their families. This position involves working closely with the school boards, Windsor-Essex Children’s Aid Society, and other relevant community service providers. The Mental Health Social Worker II provides direct clinical services in the areas of individual, group, and family treatment, within the Outpatient Counselling and Therapy department or the Intensive Treatment Services program. The Mental Health Social Worker II is responsible for developing a family-focused treatment plan, providing service coordination, and consulting with school personnel and community providers as needed. The Mental Health Social Worker II is responsible for delivery of care consistent with the vision and values of the hospital and the standards of relevant professional organizations. They comply with the Occupational Health and Safety standards for the hospital and is proactive in promoting a safe work environment.
Qualifications
Minimum 3 years’ experience working with children experiencing significant social, emotional and behavioral needs – Preferred
Demonstrated ability to make critical decisions quickly
Demonstrate high level of judgment, independence, and initiative
Clinical skills to assess signs and symptoms of a range of emotional and behavioural disorders
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Good problem solving ability to think analytically, innovatively and independently
Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team
Ability to develop and maintain constructive working relationships with other community partners
Ability to apply biopsychosocial treatment principles for clients with pervasive mental illness
Well-developed assessment, interviewing, counseling, treatment skills, crisis intervention skills and risk assessment skills with an ability to apply these skills on campus and in the community
French language proficiency is considered an asset
Possession of a valid Ontario driver’s license and liability insurance to facilitate frequent travel and transport of clients within catchment area - Required
Education and/or Certification
Masters of Social Work Degree – Required
Current Certification of Registration issued through the Ontario College of Social Workers & Social Service Workers – Required
