Job Description
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Certified Health Information Management Technician ensures health records are complete and accurate, providing data for program planning and funding. The position ensures records are coded/abstracted accurately for submission to CIHI. In addition, the Certified Health Information Management Technician is responsible for qualitative analysis of charts, transcribed reports, release of patient information, completion of data quality assurance reports, chart reviews and quality audits for various post-acute programs.
Qualifications
1-2 years of experience as a Certified Health Information Management Technician - preferred
Experience in Coding and Abstracting NACRS and current Canadian Coding Standards
Experience and knowledge of ICD10/CCI and Med2020 Abstracting system is an asset
Experience and understanding of post-acute care coding (NRS, CCRS, OHMRS)
Knowledge of Provincial Acts including but not limited to Public Hospitals Act, PHIPA and FIPPA
Must be able to work within a fast paced, electronic/computer environment with minimal supervision
Ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff, public and regional health care agencies and providers
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Ability to work independently and as an effective team member
Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adaptable in a changing work environment
Excellent communication skills; Proficiency in French language is an asset
Education and/or Certification
Graduate of an approved Health Information Management Program
Active member of CHIMA
